So you are facing the prospect of spending weeks, and possibly months, stuck in your home with those walls which seem to be getting closer to each other on a daily basis. After a few days, maybe less for some, you will be begging for something to do, anything to do, and there are only so many cute cat videos you can deal with.
This is why we thought that it would be a good idea to write some tutorials on something that you may have been wanting to do for a long time – write a book. Why not take this opportunity to do it, after all, what else are you going to do once they run out of new Eastenders episodes?
“A BOOK IS IMPOSSIBLE TO WRITE. JUST WRITING THE FIRST DRAFT WILL TAKE FOREVER!”
It may seem that way, but you will be surprised. If you were to write 1,666 words each day, it would only take you 30 days to write your first draft of a 50,000 word book. Write just 500 words each day, and it would still only take you 100 days to write the same book.
If you don’t want to write a book, but write short stories instead, we will be looking at this too later in the series, but for now, much of what I say about writing your book will apply to short stories.
Some people like to use software such as Word to write their books, while others like to use something simpler, like Notepad, as this removes many distractions. personally, I use specialist writing software called Scrivener, as this has everything in it that can make writing your book successful.
I will be explaining more about Scrivener in part 3 of this series of tutorials, but why not download it and give it a test run? There is a 30 day free trial and we have made a deal with the company that makes it, giving you a 20% discount if you want to buy it.
The main thing to remember, is that writing your book isn’t difficult if you take it a bit at a time. looking forward at the task in hand can seem a daunting task, which is why that is not the way you should do it. Follow these tutorials, and you will find that you are getting through it in no time at all.
